The Story Behind BabyQ

During my 40 years in the practice of medicine, I realized the best place to intervene for good health was early—and there is no earlier time than in the womb. I always describe epigenetics as the science of turning good genes on and bad genes off. Pregnancy is the ideal time to do that.

Also, I was driven by the fact that there is so much information out there on pregnancy that it's overwhelming. I wanted to distill everything that is necessary down to one number: the BabyQ score. The questions we ask and our probabilities are all consistent with recommendations from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The data we trained our predictive algorithms against is from the CDC site on natality.

But remember, predictions are probabilities—they're not destiny. You can use the fine-tuning of your BabyQ score to reduce any risk in pregnancy you may have acquired. My hope is you will do so.

Sincerely,
Mark Gostine, MD
